SUMMARY:Art Call for "A Charles River Journey"
DESCRIPTION:The Wellesley Society of Artists and the Dedham Art Association in collaboration with the Charles River Watershed Association\, invite New England area artists to a Call for Art for the early 2027 exhibition\, A Charles River Journey: 80 Artists\, 80 Miles. \nArtists are invited to share their visual impressions of the Charles River—from its meandering natural landscapes to the diverse communities it connects\, and its vital role as both a recreational and ecological resource. Seen through the artist’s eye the flora\, fauna\, people\, and places are reimagined as a lasting record of the environmental and social narratives that define our time. \nThis unique exhibition will bring together artists to foster environmental awareness and give homage to the river as a vital thread connecting us to nature and each other. Eighty works will be selected\, representing the rich and varied life of the Charles River along its full 80-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston. \nArtists living in New England—both emerging and established—as well as students enrolled in New England universities\, are invited to submit one original two-dimensional work. Accepted media include painting\, drawing\, mixed media/collage\, and printmaking. Eighty artworks will be juried into the exhibit and eligible for over $2500 in cash awards.  \nEXHIBITION LOCATION  \nThe Mosesian Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary arts venue in Watertown\, Massachusetts. The 30\,000 square foot center\, located within a former U.S. Army arsenal\, houses two theaters\, exhibition galleries\, classrooms\, and rehearsal studios. Mosesian Arts is located six miles from downtown Boston\, borders the Charles River and Brighton\, and is easily accessible from surrounding suburbs and Metro West. DESCRIPTION:WSA exhibiting member and contemporary artist Eddie Bruckner invites the public to experience “The Familiar Reimagined: Artwork by Eddie Bruckner\,” a solo exhibition on view at the Wellesley Free Library\, 530 Washington St.\, Wellesley\, MA 20482\, from September 3 through September 30\, 2026. \nThe public is invited to attend the Artist’s Reception on Wednesday\, September 9\, 2026\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist\, learn about the inspiration behind the paintings\, and enjoy light refreshments while viewing the exhibition. \nThrough bold color\, dynamic composition\, and a contemporary visual language rooted in Pop Art\, Bruckner explores how the images that surround us—from iconic landmarks and everyday objects to symbols of popular culture—become part of our collective memory. His paintings invite viewers to pause and reconsider the familiar\, revealing new stories\, emotions\, and connections within subjects that often go unnoticed. The exhibition’s title\, The Familiar Reimagined\, reflects Bruckner’s artistic approach. DESCRIPTION:Join the Wellesley Society of Artists and John and Gillian Ross\, owners of Gallery Twist\, Lexington for a primer on “The Nuts and Bolts of Selling Art”\, Tuesday\, September 29th\, 6:30-8pm\, at the Wellesley Free Library Wakelin Room.  This session is designed to help artists navigate the complexities of finding “new homes” for their work by addressing the key issues that matter most to both artists and gallery owners. \nTopics will include:  \n\nPricing strategies\nThe importance of presenting/framing artwork\nInsights into what galleries consider when choosing art\nPro-tips (and common pitfalls!) for working with gallery owners\n\nThe presentation will conclude with a Q&A session\, offering an opportunity to get direct feedback from experienced gallery owners. \nGallery Twist is located in the center of Lexington\, Massachusetts\, in a beautiful historic home near the Battle Green. The unique setting in a beautiful historic house\, together with the distinctive way art isdisplayed\, makes it indeed a gallery with a twist. Each year 3 – 5 exhibitions are presented\, offering visitors an opportunity to view an eclectic mix of New England artwork in various styles and media. In this welcoming and un-intimidating environment visitors enjoy what many have called ‘an art experience’. SUMMARY:Artist Demo with Don Demers: "The Breaking Sea"
DESCRIPTION:“The Breaking Sea”\n\nDemonstration with Don Demers \nThe Wellesley Society of Artists in partnership with the Wellesley Free Library welcome artist Don Demers for a painting demonstration\, The Breaking Sea” on November 8th at 1:30pm. The demo will include the presentation of a small sketch from which he will work into a 16”x 24” oil painting. The scene will portray waves breaking on a shoreline. Don will narrate throughout and explain that he typically does not work from photographs\, but from sketches and studies he does on location. This is a unique opportunity to see Don Demers at work. He is a master at painting the elusive nature of the ocean. \n  \nAbout Don Demers… \n\nDonald Demers is considered to be one of the finest marine and landscape painters in America.The exemplary level of Don’s paintings has placed them in some of the most prestigious public and private collections in the country. Don Demers is a highly sought after instructor and his teaching has taken him around the United States and Europe. His work as an illustrator has been honored four times in the annual exhibition of the Society of Illustrators. Don’s marine paintings have garnered him a record 21 awards at the Mystic International Marine Exhibition including the prestigious Rudolph J. Schaefer Award. He has received awards for his landscape painting from the Joan Irving Museum in Irvine\, California\, the Laguna Plein Air Invitational and from The Guild of Boston Artists. Don is a Fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists\, an elected member of the Guild of Boston Artists\, a Signature member of the Plein Air Painters of America\, an elected member of the Salmagundi Club and an elected member of the California Art Club. \n\n  \n
