What goes on in a 30 second drawing and why practice this.  What happens as you add more time.  \n\n\n3.  15-30 minutes:   Drawing with straight lines\, what and why.   \n\n\n4.  10-15 minutes:  Outline and Contour.    5 minutes of the time will be for people in the audience to do a blind contour drawing of their hand after I demo the process. \n\n\n5. 15-20 minutes: Notan and Composition. Large thumbnails for planning a composition. \n\n\n6.  Drawing for painting (what’s different from drawing for it’s own sake).   \nSee Ron’s work:  ronkrouk.com

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our second celebration of abstract art! \nThe Center for Arts Natick (TCAN)\nThe Great Escape\nJanuary 31 – February 28\nArtwork Registration January 9-23\nGeorgia O’Keefe was a pioneering modernist painter and said\, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” With that in mind\, participants are invited to submit artwork that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality\, but instead uses shapes\, colors\, forms\, and marks to achieve effect and meaning. This definition may include the realm of surrealism that seeks to challenge accepted norms. In showcasing abstract art\, this call encourages artists to create paintings that express insights and explore ideas without the anchor of representational symbols. \nRegistration Fee is $20.00 – One Entry Per Member  \nNo size limitations  \nSend jpegs of your artwork for publicity to Nancy Treves  \nTCAN manages all sales \n If the artist is a member of TCAN\, the commission is 25% of the sale price plus the sales tax \n If the artist is NOT a TCAN member\, the commission is 30% of the sale price plus the sales tax \nWSA does not take a commission from sales \nPlease read the WSA exhibition policies with special attention to framing/hanging requirements \nArtwork Drop off: January 31\, 10:00-11:00am \nArtwork Pick Up: February 28\, 10:00am – Noon \nShow Chairs: Mike Murphy and Mark Richards \nContact Mike Murphy for show related questions \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:WSA/NAA Annual Artist Demo with Janet Schwartz
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wellesley Society of Artists and the Needham Art Association for our Annual Joint Artist Demo on April 7\, 6:30-8:30pm\, hosted by the NAA at the Needham Library. This year’s demo\, “Figurative Painting with Pastels” will be done by educator and pastel artist\, Janet Schwartz. The driving force behind Janet’s figurative paintings is the connection between people and/or the environment.  In this demo\, she will focus on capturing the gesture and mood in a figurative painting to tell a story.   \nAlthough trained as an art teacher\, Janet put off her artistic interests to pursue a corporate career until 2021\, when she traded it in for a full life of painting and teaching. Her work has recently focused on connections between figures at the beach\, while she is also drawn to a diverse range of subjects: the variation of light in nature and architecture\, the unexpected beauty of urban landscapes and traffic scenes\, and more. Janet is a Master Circle Member of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS)\, a Copley Signature Artist with the Copley Society of Art\, a juried member of the Rockport Art Association and the Northshore Art Association; a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA) and Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod (PPSCC). YOU can learn more about Janet and her work at janetschwartzart.com. \n

SUMMARY:Art Call for "A Charles River Journey"
DESCRIPTION:The Wellesley Society of Artists and the Dedham Art Association in collaboration with the Charles River Watershed Association\, invite New England area artists to a Call for Art for the early 2027 exhibition\, A Charles River Journey: 80 Artists\, 80 Miles. \nArtists are invited to share their visual impressions of the Charles River—from its meandering natural landscapes to the diverse communities it connects\, and its vital role as both a recreational and ecological resource. Seen through the artist’s eye the flora\, fauna\, people\, and places are reimagined as a lasting record of the environmental and social narratives that define our time. \nThis unique exhibition will bring together artists to foster environmental awareness and give homage to the river as a vital thread connecting us to nature and each other. Eighty works will be selected\, representing the rich and varied life of the Charles River along its full 80-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston. \nArtists living in New England—both emerging and established—as well as students enrolled in New England universities\, are invited to submit one original two-dimensional work. Accepted media include painting\, drawing\, mixed media/collage\, and printmaking. Eighty artworks will be juried into the exhibit and eligible for over $2500 in cash awards.  \nEXHIBITION LOCATION  \nThe Mosesian Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary arts venue in Watertown\, Massachusetts. The 30\,000 square foot center\, located within a former U.S. Army arsenal\, houses two theaters\, exhibition galleries\, classrooms\, and rehearsal studios. Mosesian Arts is located six miles from downtown Boston\, borders the Charles River and Brighton\, and is easily accessible from surrounding suburbs and Metro West. Programs include professional theater and musical performances\, gallery exhibitions\, literary and art discussions\, and performing and visual arts classes and workshops for all ages. \n \nRegistration via Art Call\n  \nImportant Dates \n\nRegistration call: April 20 – November 1\, 2026\nSelected artwork announced: November 16\, 2026\nWork Drop Off: Saturday\, January 9\, 2027 10 am – 12 noon or Tuesday\, January 12\, 2027 10:30 am – 2:00 pm\, Shipped work arriving by January 15\, 2027\nExhibition Dates: January 22 – March 12\,2027\nOpening reception: Thursday\, January 28\, 2027  5:30 – 7:30 pm\nWork Pick Up: Saturday\, March 13\, 2027 10:00 am – 12:00 pm or Tuesday\, March 16\, 2027 10:30 am – 2:00 pm
