SUMMARY:"Inspired By" Exhibition at the Wellesley Free Library
DESCRIPTION:The Wellesley Society of Artists presents “Inspired By” at the Wellesley Free Library\, Wakelin Room\, March 2-31. This unique exhibition features artwork inspired by a favorite artist. Over 30 member artists showcase their eclectic styles and genres all inspired by artists from Rembrandt to Wolf Kahn.  \nJoin us for the awards reception on March 22 at 1:30pm. The awards announcement will be followed by a panel discussion\, “Who’s Your Muse?” with WSA members Darryl Abbey\, Johan Ellefsen\, Pilar Figueira\, Ginit Marten\, Yale Nicolls\, Mark Richards\, and Robert Savage who will discuss how their artwork was inspired by a particular artist’s style or genre. This will be an informal dialogue with audience members about how each of us draws from the collective art community to create works that both inspire us and those around us.  \n Free and Open to the Public.

DESCRIPTION:“Creating Watercolor Portraits with Mood and Depth”  \nInstructor: Award Winning Painter and Educator Irena Roman\, March 7\, 2026\, 9:30am -4:00pm  \nHosted by the Wellesley Society of Artists at the Needham Rosemary Recreation Complex \nAdvance Sign Up Required – Limited to 18 – Cost:$140.00 \nThis workshop is FULL\nPlease note that this program is not for beginner watercolor painters. Participants must bring their own supplies.                                               \nLearn how to paint an emotive portraits in transparent watercolor from start to finish! In this workshop\, the process of creating a portrait will be broken down into bite-sized pieces. We’ll begin by drawing basic structural shapes based on the value scale from provided reference\, explore both wet-on-wet and dry-brush techniques\, discuss flesh-tone “recipes”\, and cover the importance of lighting\, composition\, and narration in portraiture. \nMore about Irena Roman… \nIrena Roman is an award-winning transparent watercolorist from Scituate\, MA. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from Syracuse University. She achieved Signature Status from the American Watercolor Society in 2012 and \nDolphin Fellowship status in 2023. She also holds signature membership with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America\, the New England Watercolor Society\, the Watercolor Honor Society\, and American Women Artists. \nIrena’s paintings are in many corporate and private collections\, including Toray International Inc.\, Tokyo\, Japan\, and The National Fire Protection Association\, Boston\, MA. Her work is regularly included in national and international competitions and has been featured in several publications\, including a 2024 feature story in  The Art of Watercolour magazine.\n \nIn addition to being a painter\, Irena is a professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, Boston\, with over thirty years of teaching experience.
