SUMMARY:How Creative Expression Can Benefit Older Adults with Raquel Stephenson
DESCRIPTION: \nThe Wellesley Society of Artists in partnership with the Wellesley Free Library invite you to come learn “How Creative Expression Can Benefit Older Adults” on October 15th at 7:00-8:00pm at the Wellesley Free Library in the Wakelin Room. Please join us for light refreshments and conversation beginning at 6:30pm. This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Wellesley Cultural Council\, and is free and open to the public. \n \nThe journey of aging can be our most creative chapter yet—full of expression\, connection\, and growth. Through the inspiring stories of three older artists\, we’ll see how making art can support healthy and meaningful aging. Together\, we’ll look at the joy and vitality that come from lifelong artistic expression\, especially in our later years. We’ll also reflect on how aging and the arts influence each other—revealing the powerful\, uplifting role that creative expression can play throughout our lives. \n \nRaquel Chapin Stephenson\, PhD\, ATR-BC\, LCAT\nDr. Stephenson is a Professor of Art Therapy at Lesley University and Founder of Creative Aging Solutions. Her practice\, research and scholarship are at the intersection of aging and creativity\, including her book Art Therapy and Creative Aging: Reclaiming Elderhood\, Health and Wellbeing. She was co-founder and teaching artist for the Creative Approaches to Healthy Aging program\, funded by two NEA ArtWorks Grants\, and founded New York University’s Creative Aging Therapeutic Services. She serves on boards and advisory committees for several arts organizations.\n \n \n \n \nMany thanks to the Wellesley Cultural Council

What goes on in a 30 second drawing and why practice this.  What happens as you add more time.  \n\n\n3.  15-30 minutes:   Drawing with straight lines\, what and why.   \n\n\n4.  10-15 minutes:  Outline and Contour.    5 minutes of the time will be for people in the audience to do a blind contour drawing of their hand after I demo the process. \n\n\n5. 15-20 minutes: Notan and Composition. Large thumbnails for planning a composition. \n\n\n6.  Drawing for painting (what’s different from drawing for it’s own sake).   \nSee Ron’s work:  ronkrouk.com

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our second celebration of abstract art! \nThe Center for Arts Natick (TCAN)\nThe Great Escape\nJanuary 31 – February 28\nArtwork Registration January 9-23\nGeorgia O’Keefe was a pioneering modernist painter and said\, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” With that in mind\, participants are invited to submit artwork that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality\, but instead uses shapes\, colors\, forms\, and marks to achieve effect and meaning. This definition may include the realm of surrealism that seeks to challenge accepted norms. In showcasing abstract art\, this call encourages artists to create paintings that express insights and explore ideas without the anchor of representational symbols. \nRegistration Fee is $20.00 – One Entry Per Member  \nNo size limitations  \nSend jpegs of your artwork for publicity to Nancy Treves  \nTCAN manages all sales \n If the artist is a member of TCAN\, the commission is 25% of the sale price plus the sales tax \n If the artist is NOT a TCAN member\, the commission is 30% of the sale price plus the sales tax \nWSA does not take a commission from sales \nPlease read the WSA exhibition policies with special attention to framing/hanging requirements \nArtwork Drop off: January 31\, 10:00-11:00am \nArtwork Pick Up: February 28\, 10:00am – Noon \nShow Chairs: Mike Murphy and Mark Richards \nContact Mike Murphy for show related questions \nREGISTER
