Cora Ainge

Wellesley, MA

Cora Ainge was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico on a farm surrounded by peach and apple orchards. Her mother is a talented oil painter, but Cora didn’t actually start painting until her early 30s. She had a rather unexplained late start, but few days have gone by since the moment she finally picked up a paint brush that she hasn’t spent painting.

The subject matter of her paintings varies, but what really draws her to a new canvas is light. Light is what she notices all around her in the world and is what she seeks to capture in her paintings. Her work tends to be atmospheric and moody because of her focus on light, above all else.

The beautiful scenery New England has to offer inspires Cora daily as she paints waterscapes, florals and golf courses. As the sister to three brothers and mother to three boys, rather ironically, Cora also paints a lot of little girl ballerinas.

In addition to raising her children and painting, she is an amateur astronomer enthusiast. She can often be found outside with her telescope and a long line of neighborhood kids waiting to get a glimpse of Saturn or Jupiter.
