Janet Montecalvo is a contemporary realist painter working in oils. Her colors are highly saturated and appropriate for her subjects. Although the subject matter varies, it usually tells a story about her life experiences and surroundings. There is often a sense of nostalgia and history being documented in the still life arrangements, vintage signage or landscapes that are selected. Sometimes there is a subtle, or not so subtle element of humor in the compositions. Montecalvo’s main goal is that of inviting the viewer into her personal world of everyday simple objects and locations and reigniting happy memories or encouraging the creation of new ones.
