Laurie was lucky to grow up surrounded by nature and beauty, which helped shape her visual sensibilities.  She has been doing art and crafts since childhood, working in different media but initially primarily drawing. She took a number of classes in college, and at various art schools in her 20s.

For decades, her time to practice art was sidelined by her career and childrearing. She eventually took watercolor classes at the Danforth Museum School, and then later at the New Art Center. She credits her wonderful teachers Rosetta Nasisi and Paul Alie with her progress.  Her painting of a canine musical ensemble was featured on children’s shirts at the Tanglewood Music Center gift store during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

With her recent semi-retirement, Laurie hopes to devote more time to her painting.

In order to be inspired, she needs to feel an emotional connection to her subject, whether it’s her or a friend’s beloved pet, a bird she’s photographed, or a beautiful still life or view of nature. She has no specific philosophy behind her painting aside from the joy she gets from the process and sharing of her work.
