Mena Levit

A classical opera singer and voice teacher by trade, Mena has always been interested in art, but never formally trained. A few years ago she had the opportunity to attend a pastel demonstration by Robin Frisella. She immediately fell in love with the style and vibrant nature of the medium, and began watching online beginner videos and attending various workshops by experienced pastel artists. Mena has also studied with artist Cindy Crimmin. This amplified her painting skills and allowed her to move to a completely different level. Her favorite subject are flowers, animals, still life, and subsequently portraits. As a performer with a significant theater background Mena often find herself attracted to the stories behind the character, and tries to bring it into her paintings by capturing a very specific moment. Being able to achieve this with merely chalk pastels, pencils, and her fingers just seems absolutely magical to her, and the results of this creative process never cease to amaze her.
Mena is a member of Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of Cape Cod, Pastel Society of New Hampshire, Newburyport Art Association, Needham Art Association, Dedham Art Association, Exhibiting member at Art Center of Cape Cod.
