Nelson Hammer

Nelson is a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society (NEWS) and a member of the Needham Art Association. Entirely self-taught, he became seriously interested in oil painting while in college but stopped after graduation to work, marry, and raise a family. On a whim, he purchased a starter watercolor set in 2014 and began painting realistic depictions of birds and landscapes. He enjoys recreating intricacies such as birds of prey’s hooded eyes (eagles, falcons, owls, ospreys, and hawks), the brilliant colors of tropical and sub-tropical species, and the details of foliage and the built environment in his landscape.
