Vidya Shyamsundar

Needham, MA

Vidya Shyamsundar is a self-taught artist and educator who explores mindfulness and meaning through mixed-media mandala art. Her intricate paintings on wooden boards blend textures, layers, and mark-making with materials like handmade Gelli prints, joint compound, acrylics, and much more. Born and raised in southern India, she has called the United States home for over two decades. Now based in Needham, MA, Vidya brings her artistic vision to life in her studio at the Norwood Commerce Center in Norwood, MA. For her, her work is more than a creative expression—it is a journey of self-discovery, embracing life’s mysteries with curiosity and intent.

Vidya shares her art through gallery exhibitions, open studio tours, commissions, and large-scale mandala murals. She also teaches retreat-style art classes that integrate creativity with mindfulness, offering a grounding experience in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world. Through her workshops, she invites participants to slow down, reflect, and connect with themselves, believing that nurturing our inner world is essential for healing and hope.

Her artistic journey has been recognized beyond the studio, including a feature on WHYY-PBS Kids’ television series Albie’s Elevator (2023). Whether through her paintings or teaching, Vidya’s work fosters a space for self-awareness, transformation, and deep connection—bridging art, spirituality, and personal growth. Beyond her creative endeavors, Vidya finds joy in organizing, decorating, learning Sanskrit, listening to art podcasts, and exploring nature through walks and hikes.
